Luzula - Av italiensk lucciola, midsommarmark, eller latin luculus, liten lund. Navn
på frytle hos Luigi Anguillara, 1561.
nivalis - som veks nær snøen
arcticus - Arktisk.
Høgde 5-15 cm, brede blad 3-6 mm
Vokser i litt fuktig fjelleng og flytjord høgt til fjells.

Arctic woorush is an arctic / circumpolar and rare species and in our area concentrated in the interior, high mountains of Troms County. Two isolated areas in Fennoscandia: 1: Western Finnmark- southwestern Lule lappmark (Sweden) and 2, in southern Norway around Dovre Mts.
The locations are few, often out-of-the-way, and L. n. is not abundant in its habitats. However one fine and easily reached station in Troms, Gaivuona suohkan: Mt Gussachokka, in north-facing, wet, grassy slopes at 890 m. a.s.l.
